Health Secretary Matt Hancock thanked the public for adhering to the nationwide lockdown due to end on December 2.
During the government briefing he said the restrictions have led to a 30% reduction in coronavirus cases in England.
Tough restrictions will begin as soon as the lockdown ends, with the country divided into tiers.
